Let us try to make the above quote more relatable to ourselves. Let us say-
”Pen is mightier than the sword”
Correct.
But incomplete….
”Pen is mightier than the sword”
…only when it is uncapped and running for a cause.
Hence, the topic is more complete and meaningful than it might seem on the outside.
The adage above has a moral lurking inside it which applies to all spheres of life.
Ships might be safer in the harbor, they might avert the scare of drowning by keeping away from the roaring seas. However, they are not meant to languish in t confined spaces.
They are meant to face the waters of the oceans and seas. They are made of steel and iron and are equipped with all sorts of supports to face the fury of the towering tides, in case they face any.
The TITANIC, the SHIP OF DREAMS faced the worst nightmare on its maiden voyage.
But one can’t take refuge in the above dictum and propose that the mishap could have been prevented.
The Titanic allegory is a treatise on unfazed grit of human resolute to venture out in the unknown and grope for the unseen even if the chances of accomplishment are grim.
Safety is always a concern but risk provides the breeding ground for success.
We, as humans are the most supreme species and hence we can easily afford the luxury of preying on other smaller and weaker ones and nurture our lives in the safest manner. We have a choice of doing away with all that makes life hard, and dwell in harmony with primitiveness.
But, that is not what our purpose of living would be. Just as the ship’s purpose is not to rust away in the harbor or a sword’s purpose is not to hide in its scabbard.
We must define our purpose, set our goals and then strive to achieve them against all odds. The topic implies that the purpose of a ship is to complete the journey through the waters, be them calm and quiet or fearfully stormy. Similarly, we must not be bounded in our comforts zones (our harbors , as one may call them) and must step out of them in order to accomplish our dreams. We must set ourselves on a voyage through the turbulent waters of life in order to find the intermittent ports of success and hence set forth again, on yet another quest.
Thus, the only way to meaningfully fulfill the purpose of our lives and also enjoy the ride on this worldly SHIP on which GOD has sent us upon, is to venture out fearlessly and not be captivated in HARBORS of comfort and laziness.
